OUR MISSION
The Hunter College Addiction and Behavioral Impulsivity Team (H.A.B.I.T) is interested in how emotional, cognitive, behavioral and genetic factors impact addictive behavior-- in particular, tobacco smoking and alcohol dependence . We use a multidisciplinary-translational approach, with hypotheses driven by both the human and animal literatures that have contributed to the current understanding of motivations for drug use. While this endeavor is massive, below are just a few questions we are currently investigating or have investigated in the past:
- What are the mechanisms underlying behavioral dysregulation as a predictor of AUDs? (See proposed model below)
- How can attitudes about smoking affect cravings?
- Can attentional bias modification be used to reduce biases to alcohol-related stimuli ?
- How do environmental triggers (i.e. stress) affect cravings?
- Can family history of dependence influence cravings?
